Wirex
A self-custodial wallet app with a Visa card and its own USD, EUR and GBP account details, for people in the 73 countries Wirex lists, which don't include the US. Your balance sits on-chain as stablecoins in a wallet you control, and Wirex says it can't freeze it, but nothing is insured. Card spending abroad and Wirex's own ATM fee are free; what it charges to send money to a bank isn't published. This verdict is based on Wirex's own terms and help pages; we'll add what users say once there are enough reviews to score.
What’s good
- USD (ACH), EUR (IBAN) and GBP (sort code) details, free to receive into
- Self-custodial: you control the wallet keys and can export them
- 0% FX on card spending, with Apple Pay and Google Pay
Watch out for
- Only for people in the 73 listed countries, and not the US
- No deposit insurance, and withdrawal fees aren't published
- A physical card needs the Premium tier: a $500+ balance with 1% in Wirex's WPAY token

Fees
Fees checkedMonthly fee
No subscription. Five tiers (Base, Premium, Elite, Private, Bespoke) are set by portfolio size and the share held in Wirex's WPAY token, e.g. Premium needs a $500+ portfolio with 1%+ in WPAY. Tiers decide card type, cashback and earn boosts.
Receiving money
Card top-ups are free locally, but a conversion fee applies when the top-up currency is USD because it is processed in EUR. Stablecoin deposits are credited 1:1 with no spread.
Sending and withdrawing
SEPA, ACH and Faster Payments withdrawal articles only say fees appear on the review screen; no amounts are published. The Wirex One terms point to a Fees and Limits Schedule whose link is a placeholder ('XXX'). Onchain stablecoin sends pay network fees only.
Currency conversion
The help article lists the foreign transaction fee as 'Free', and the membership table shows the FX fee as free on every tier. The Wirex One terms say scheme rates and any mark-ups/fees apply. Currency moves inside the app show rate, slippage and fee before you confirm; these are not published.
Card
Virtual card for all users. Plastic card for the Premium tier and above; metal Visa Signature card for Private and above. Delivery is free for Bespoke (the membership table also ticks Private). Delivery fees for other tiers are not published. Standard post takes up to 4 weeks, DHL Express 2-5 business days. Lifetime cap of 5 cards.
ATM withdrawals
The global personal page promises fee-free ATM withdrawals worldwide; the UK personal page says up to £200 fee-free. ATM operator fees are not addressed. Physical/metal cards only, with a limit of 750 EUR/day and 5,000 EUR/month.

Is my money safe?
- Self-custodial walletDescribes Wirex One, the account new personal customers open: a non-custodial wallet (keys via Privy) with regulated add-ons. Cards are issued by Wirex Limited, an FCA-authorised e-money institution (FRN 902025). Crypto-asset services in the UK/EEA come from partner Crossmint Europe. Wirex Business is a different, account-based product: fiat via OpenPayd, balances safeguarded.

- Deposit protectionWirex One balances sit as stablecoins in the user's own self-custodial wallet; no deposit insurance. Wirex Business balances are not covered by any national deposit protection scheme, but funds received for payments are safeguarded in segregated accounts. UK pages say products are not FSCS protected.
- Who holds the moneyWirex One is non-custodial. Wallet keys are split with Privy (Shamir secret sharing + AWS Nitro enclaves) and can be exported; balances live on-chain on Circle Arc (USD as USDC/USDT, EUR as EURC). Wirex says it cannot move or freeze wallet funds. Wirex Business: fiat runs through OpenPayd and may be held as stablecoins at Wirex's discretion; its marketing calls it both 'non-custodial' and 'regulated custody'.
